If you're thinking about mounting your monitor to a desk arm, wall bracket, or stand, you've likely come across the term VESA. It's a common standard in the world of monitor mounting — but not every screen plays along. Some monitors, especially from brands like Samsung, HP, or Lenovo, aren’t VESA-compatible straight out of the box.
In this guide, we’ll show you how to check whether your monitor is VESA-compatible, what to do if it isn’t, and how a VESA adapter can help.
What is VESA?
VESA stands for the Video Electronics Standards Association, and their mounting standard is what most monitor arms and wall mounts are based on. It refers to the placement and distance between the four screw holes typically found on the back of a monitor.
The most common VESA sizes are:
-
75x75mm
-
100x100mm
These measurements refer to the horizontal and vertical spacing (in millimetres) between the holes.
How to check if your monitor is VESA-compatible
1. Look at the back of the monitor
Most VESA-compatible monitors will have four screw holes in a square pattern, usually in the centre. If you see these, you're likely good to go.
2. Check your monitor's manual or product page
Manufacturers will usually list VESA compatibility in the specifications. Look for terms like “VESA mount 100x100” or “VESA standard”.
3. Search online with your model number
Type your monitor's brand and model into a search engine followed by "VESA compatible" or check forums and product Q&As.
If you don’t see mounting holes — or they’re in an unusual place or shape — your monitor probably isn’t VESA-compatible.
What if my monitor isn’t VESA-compatible?
Don’t worry — you can still mount it. All you need is a VESA adapter that has been specifically designed for your monitor model or range.
A VESA adapter works by securely attaching to the unique features of your monitor (e.g. curved back, stand slots, or casing design), and providing the necessary VESA hole pattern to mount it just like a standard display.
What kind of VESA adapter do I need?
It depends on your monitor’s make and model. At TISolutions, we manufacture custom-fit VESA adapters for a wide range of popular brands including:
